So, we just finished up the releases on a new kingdom and, as usual, the system is broken. Let me count the ways:
- Everything can be soloed: with the attack titles, dragons and the gradual power inflation every Seat of Power in the game is taken within 30 seconds
- No consequences for not having banners: this weekend 3 of Paramount seats, along with numerous 3.5 stars, were held by T4s; this is because they were either locked or because the defense game has become about the number of dragons you can fit in
- The spirit, at least, of the banner limits are meaningless because everyone groups into one "super allegiance," aided by the fact that even if the Seat of Power holder can't use their own title they can still give them out
The bonuses for holding a 3.5 star Seat have taken second place to the attack titles in almost all cases. Having a 35% or so attack bonus doesn't matter when a single piece of gear in the armory can give better than that and new sets are introduced almost every week. As long as the defenders have enough people on to fill -- which is not a high bar -- the extra reinforcing march size doesn't matter on anything bigger than about a 2.5 star.
This means that it's easy to pull all of the T11 players -- as well as all of the 3.5+ star SoPs -- from a number of allegiances into a single one that exists only for a weekend and then disperses. For a game that is intended to replicate the feel of a world where the bond between lord and vassal is a strong one this seems like a problem.
I feel as if I've said the same things for the last two years, but let's give it another shot because there are several solutions, some of them easier than others. A simple one would be to prevent titles from taking effect unless the holder of the Seat meets the banner requirements. Another simple one would be to increase the cooldown period for changing allegiances -- personally I would recommend at least 24 hours, maybe even more -- or, if we wanted to get a little more complex, require a period between joining a new allegiance and being able to join rallies or send reinforcements.
Personally, I would prefer to see something even more significant such as preventing (or scaling down) the number of reinforcements that a Seat of Power could accept if the holder didn't meet the banner requirements. Or perhaps even losing ownership of it completely after a period of time.
As far as the soloing goes it's not going to make a difference for me for another year or so, given the way things are going, but I'd recommend requiring rallies to take significant Seats of Power. Not sure where to draw the line, but maybe 3 star or up should not be able to be taken with a single march, regardless of power. Much like rally creatures simply remove that option from the UI -- that's a pretty simple change as well.
